The Newcastle Knights and Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service formally announced a partnership on 27 April 2006 that will enable both organisations to use their business and community networks to help promote each other. While the Service and the Knights have worked unofficially together for many years, the new Fundraising Partnership will see a range of additional activities that will provide education and cross promotion of both organisations.

The Newcastle Knights football team was formed in 1988 (so named as Knights are men of steel and Newcastle was a steel city).

Players Kirk Reynoldson and Matt Gidley are the Newcastle Knights Ambassadors for the Service.
